KYNW July 26, 2013

Yep, doesn’t it just figure that I don’t even have the new schedule up for a week and I already have to edit it? Well that’s beside the point of this post, we’re now onto our first KYNW aircheck, recorded on July 26, 2013. For some reason I always remember this aircheck by the fact that I had a graduation party to go to the next day, which is a little odd since that doesn’t have anything to do with the aircheck. Anyway, a little history on KYNW, this station was known as KMNT for years, before it was bought by current owner Clear Channel, who moved the KMNT call sign and existing country format to 104.3 in Chehalis and relaunched 102.9 licensed to nearby Centralia as Q Country under the KNBQ calls. This format lasted about 6 years, until it was abruptly dropped for a simulcast of KJR-AM in November 2011. That’s what format this frequency was doing when Bill Harms from Tophour.com was last here. Then, without warning, on June 14, 2013 the simulcast of 950 am was dropped in favor of the current Adult Top 40 format, and with that came a new legal ID and finally new call letters as the KJR-FM calls were and still are, at least for now, on 95.7 fm. Of course, since I live here, I decided I needed to get the legal ID, and so that’s what I did in this aircheck, along with Seacrest’s AT5. A more local-sounding aircheck of the station recorded a few months later comes to this site next week.
